Two Great HeartMath® Resources
Heart Intelligence
In Heart Intelligence: Connecting with the Intuitive Guidance of the Heart, Rollin McCraty (p. 68) explains:
“To help de-mystify the term “coherence,” let’s use a simple analogy. Imagine being in meditation or prayer and being constantly interrupted by intruding thoughts, feelings, worries, mind looks or even good ideas, all of which can disrupt and scatter the focus and effectiveness of our intentions. This creates a type of internal “incoherence” or internal “noise.” On the other hand, increasing our internal coherence during prayer or meditation helps us sustain and maintain a genuine, heartfelt focus which translates into increase intuitive guidance and personal effectiveness. Getting into this state of coherence helps to align and coordinate our thoughts and emotions with our heart’s
Through practicing coherence, getting into that static-free zone, just a few minutes a day, we are able to build our resilience, which HeartMath defines as the capacity to prepare for, recover from and adapt in the face of stress, challenge, or adversity.
Inner Balance
I also practice regularly with my Inner Balance™ app on my iPhone or the emWave® technology on my computer. I get into a comfortable position, attach the sensor to my earlobe and begin the training program on my device. It guides me to take steady, deep breaths while focusing on the area around my heart and positive feelings while monitoring my heart rate variability. The program lets me know when I am in that coherence zone when my heart and mind are in sync and communicating. I can even earn points for coherence and record how much time I am in the high coherence zone.
